The Scout hall is 28 years old. Demand for use is high from various local community groups. Current users include the Scouts, Torquay Karate, Football and Cricket clubs, a local church group and ad-hoc users. Storage is limited, much of the scout equipment has to be kept offsite. Erosion in the adjacent gravel carpark from stormwater runoff is problematic.

The extension will double the storage area and make it safer to use; will prevent erosion in the car park; and will create a second meeting space, providing much sought after meeting areas for local community groups.

The benefits to the community from this extension include:

  1. Additional meeting space allowing multiple groups to utilise the hall simultaneously;
  2. Extra meeting space will allow more local community groups to use hall;
  3. Improved access into hall will allow people of all abilities to use the facility;
  4. Improved storage will allow equipment to be stored in one location, improve safety when handling and moving equipment;
  5. Will allow the introduction of the Rover Scout age group (18-26)
  6. Storm water drainage works will improve exterior amenity, reduce erosion in carpark and nearby parkland area.
